Finished Quilt

Finally, here is a picture of the finished rag quilt I made for our preschool's Spring Fling.

It's hard to tell in this picture, but the green fabric has monkeys on it. That's because my class is Ms. Annette's Monkeys.  My monkeys (2 and 3 year olds) used the Big Shot and the scallop square die to cut out the fabric. They loved turning the handle on the Big Shot! Then with a little guidance, they decided on this pattern. My assistant helped make a grid on butcher paper, and the kids placed the fabric on the appropriate squares. I brought the squares home and sewed them together. Our quilt is 11 squares across and 14 squares down. That makes a nice size for a toddler blanket. It went in the silent auction at our fund raiser and was won by the mom of one of my students. Mom says he was so excited when she brought it home! He wants it on his bed, just so. :-)

Sewing with pieces cut from the Big Shot is so easy! Can't wait 'til I get to do another project like this.

Big Shot Quilt

The preschool had a silent auction in March, and they asked each class to make something for the auction. I wanted to come up with something that would appeal to parents from all of the classes and not just mine, so I finally settled on a rag quilt made with the Big Shot scallop square die.

I bought flannel and cut it into squares. Then the kids used the Big Shot to cut the scallop squares:

I don't have permission from the parents to post pictures online, so I smudged their faces. But they loved using the Big Shot! We cut out about 300 squares.

I created a graph on butcher paper so the kids could create a design.

They decided on stripes.

They were very proud of the final product!

I carefully picked up all of the squares, brought them home and turned it into a quilt. Here is the final product: 

If you are looking for a silent auction project, this one was a hit! The children felt a lot of ownership, and the moms and grandmas really wanted it. Next to the quilt at the auction, I had a digital scrapbook page showing the kids working on it. I think that added something as well.

Mom sent me the picture and knew it would be online. You can see how happy she is. I'm not sure what her reaction would have been if grandma hadn't won the auction. She told her mom, "It's mine. I made it!" Love my preschoolers! :-)
